February 2010 – HARG annual review 2009

Our annual review of 2008 - 2009 is now available, and gives an overview of the work that HARG and its member organisations have done during this period. November 2009 - HARG Training registered with City & Guilds

‘HARG Training’ has been created to meet the learning and professional development needs of our advocacy workforce. We were registered as a training centre with City & Guilds in November 2009, and are currently supporting our 26 Independent Mental Capacity Advocates through the qualification using our in house assessors.

August 2009 – Report from the Self Advocacy day

Over 80 self advocates attended the day at the Hilton Hotel in Eastleigh in April. Individual self advocates and their groups, advocacy organisations and Winchester and District Mencap all worked together to plan and run the day. April 2009 - Self advocacy day for people with a learning disability in Hampshire

Self advocates are organising a day for people to get together on Saturday 25 April 2009 in Eastleigh. There will be an opportunity to join in workshops on health, support and the community, take part in other activities and meet up with friends over a 2 course lunch. There will a “Question Time” style panel in the afternoon with some guests who can answer questions about what they are doing to make life better for people with a learning disability in Hampshire. February 2009 - Mental Health Advocacy from April 2009

Hampshire County Council have awarded the Mental Health Advocacy contracts to Basingstoke Advocacy Scheme (BAS) and Solent Mind.

BAS will be providing advocacy across North Hampshire in Andover, Basingstoke, Hart and Rushmoor, Alton, Bordon and Liss. For more information about BAS call 01256 328080 or visit their website at www.basingstokeadvocacy.org.uk

Solent Mind will be providing advocacy across the rest of the county – for more information see www.solentmind.org.uk

HARG will continue with our Mental Health Advocacy Development project, and will offer a specialist service to people with mental health issues who are also deaf or hearing impaired.
